Dr. Vrain is a retired soil biologist and genetic engineer. He spent his whole research career with the Department of Agriculture in Canada.
He was the head of a research group of 40 professionals in Biotechnology, the Vice President and President of national and international associations of soil biologists, and an Associate Editor of several scientific Journals in Europe and in the USA.
His research covered biological control, chemical control and resistance breeding, biochemistry, genetic engineering, and molecular taxonomy of nematodes. He pioneered the use of non coding ribosomal DNA sequences to identify nematodes. His universal DNA primers were used to identify all plant parasitic nematodes, entomophagous nematodes, and even fungi.
He has published the results of his collaborations with 57 researchers from 14 countries and states in over 200 refereed publications, book chapters, conference abstracts, and technical summaries.
He left the public service in 2002 and retired on Vancouver Island in 2005, where he established a small herbal farm. He is now raising the alarm about the current excesses of the gene revolution and chemical agriculture, particularly herbicide contamination of engineered crops and food.

In recent years, he has presented to local government, participated in panels from regional local government gatherings to international conferences, presented a TEDxTalk on the Gene Revolution

and more recently, toured across Canada with his lecture on “Engineered food and your health”. Here is the video of his cross-country lecture, with his final lecture here at home in the Comox Valley presented April 22, 2015.

In a parallel letter to the Minister of Health, Rona Ambrose, Dr. Vrain outlines his concerns with genetic engineered food and our health. To Rona Ambrose. From DrVrain.Oct2014

I wish the trip all success.
A specific website is being created for the tour at : http://www.tonu.org/tonu/FW/SHIV_THIERRY/GEFoodsTour.html. The site is under construction, and the specific page for the Courtney event is at : http://www.tonu.org/tonu/FW/SHIV_THIERRY/a0comoxvalleykic.html

I would love to touch base with the relevant persons organizing this kick-off event and panel discussions, in order to fill out the kick off page of the web site properly.

    Hi guys.
Small mistake to the above link.
The hope page is at : http://www.tonu.org/tonu/FW/SHIV_THIERRY/GEFoodsTour.html
If you click on the “Itinerary” button, and then select “Wancouver Island” ection, you will come to all events in the island. At the top of the list is Courtenay – Nov 14. Clicking on that link should bring you to the kick off event. Direct address of that page is : http://www.tonu.org/tonu/FW/SHIV_THIERRY/a0courtenaykicko.html

There was a small mistake in the above original link. My apology.

Also, from the home page – if you click the “Audio” button, you can hear the void of people speaking, by clicking on every name. Newest addition to go up is Arzeena Hameer.

    Thanks and best regards
    Tony Mitra
